The Maine Health Information Center (MHIC) was originally created by the major
healthcare data providers and users in Maine to establish an independent data
center where data could be maintained and made available in a uniform and
valid manner to support decision making by the healthcare community;
government agencies, employers and others. MHIC provides assistance
to data providing and data using organizations in the collection,
merger, analysis, and dissemination of healthcare status,
utilization, cost, and resource data. The MHIC supports and promotes
the use of high quality healthcare data as the basis for decisions
in healthcare policy and management while guaranteeing to patients
and practitioners and to providers and users of health data that
the confidentiality of patient specific data provided to the MHIC
shall be preserved.
